Tourist destinations

Posted on Feb 20, 2014 in Honeymoons & Travel | 1 comment

We knew when we chose London & Paris for our Honeymoon that they are tourist destinations however we went in November which I believe was perfect. It was a little chilly & rainy, but I felt it made it all the more magical.
Before we left on our honeymoon I researched what to do, where to go & what not to do. There were so many blog & sites & links saying “Don’t do the tourist thing, there’s more to see than the main attractions.” While yes I do agree to some extent with these sites, I have to say that it is great advide for people who have the opportunity to travel all the time & repeat locations when they would like.
For the rest of us who choose our locations wisely because it is costly to travel from the US, I have to disagree. There is a reason these places are famous & popular & no matter what any travel blog or magazine tells me, I am stubborn & I would still like to see them. So for the first “tour” day of our trip we had a bus that did a half day tour that drove us around to see the highlights. This is the ONLY tour I actually enjoyed or supported. It was a convenient way to get a lay of the land & get our barings for where we were. It was convenient to then decide on later days what we wanted to find again & actually be able to visit for a longer period of time. Here are some pictures of our Driving tour & yes I went crazy photographing the London eye & Big Ben. :)

London at a Glance

While most people asked me, “Why London? There are so many other places that are older & more beautiful to visit in Europe, & besides its so cold & rainy there.” To those people I say, “Yes there are many other places but London has so much history & charm & just because it is movies & TV shows does not make it any less worthy of my time & admiration.” I loved this city & oddly enough it reminded me of New York City. It was big, beautiful, easily accessible by foot or the tube & it had so much to see & try. We didn’t stay in the city center but found ourselves at the heart of the city within 5 minutes of leaving our hotel because of the convenient railway system.
I certainly didn’t mind but we booked our trip through AAA & we should’ve known from the beginning that it was a bad idea to join the tours. The first day wasn’t bad as we got to see some highlights of the city but that was the only tour that was remotely worth it & not as stressful. Needless to say we will not be booking any tour trips possibly ever again.

Well I will leave you with a few photos from our trip & will continue to post photos & stories.
